CALCULON +NYC Debut+
(Rubik | Fokuz | Bassdrive | Human Elements | San Diego)
Since Calculon started producing original tunes with the help of Kubiks and Lomax, the California Native has gone from a local dj and promoter to a internationally recognized producer with DJ support from Loxy, SPY, LTJ Bukem, Logistics, Makoto, Icicle, ASC, Bailey, Asides, Crissy Criss and many other DJs at the top of their game. With releases on Rubik, Fokuz, Human Elements, Phunkfiction, and Levitated he has established himself as one of the new school of American Dnb Producers. 2010 has been a busy year for the Label Head of Rubik Records, and between his weekly radio show on Bassdrive and his tour schedule he has been on the move, playing shows from Hawaii to Seattle to Miami. With this being his first appearance in New York, this is not a show to miss.
DB +Old School Set+
(Breakbeat Science | Driven AM | NYC)
Arriving in New York from London in '89, it could be argued that no one has done more for Drum & Bass in America than DB. First with his hardcore Breakbeat club NASA, (featured in the Larry Clark film Kids) then by launching Smi)e Communications and releasing the first Jungle singles & compilations in the US, as well as signing DJ Dara, thus kick starting his career. He & Dara then opened Breakbeat Science, dedicated to Drum & Bass, it quickly became not only the most respected record store & label, but also the very epicenter of the jungle community in the US. He recently released an artist project with partner Stakka under the name Ror-Shak, focusing & pushing the limits on the more musical side of the genre, which as a DJ, is what DB has become best loved for. "Secret Art of Science 2" is DB's 13th mix CD in as many years. He is also partner in both the cutting edge men's lifestyle shop BBlessing & the multimedia & record label Deaf Dumb & Blind Recordings. When he has a second to spare he spends it with his wife & two small children, or tries to sleep.
SOL.ID +Returns To NYC+
(Basswerk | Nu Directions | Fokuz | Future Thinkin | Texas)
Little is known about this beast from Texas. The scant facts are as follows: he is a classically trained saxophonist and percussionist,
and has a great appreciation for many different styles of music. Gaining much praise from a project entitled "Autumn" (with production partner Lost Prophet), he stormed onto the scene, raking up a number of releases on Fokuz (and Fokuz LTD),including beauties like "It's Always About The Girl", "Yesterday" (a collaboration with ICR that was featured on the "Discoveries Of The Deep" LP in 2006), and "Redemption." Being part of the new breed of US DnB producers might seem like a daunting task, but conversing with Sol.ID, he makes it sound easy. With an easygoing demeanor and an ear for what’s right both within the production and within the mix, there’s no telling how far hecan truly go. Sky’s truly the limit; just make sure you keep an ear out to how far up this shooting star is destined to travel.
HELLFIRE MACHINA +Dubstep+
(Bass Fueled Mischief | Step Up World)
Prior to the birth of this project in late 2008. Jody Shires and Tom Williams collectively had over 60 releases under their belts, along with production work for grammy nominated artists, numerous UK top ten remixes, 5 Breakspoll Awards, Best International Dj in the Spanish EDM awards 3 years running and a history in bass culture that is second to none.. The year is now 2010, sonic exploration in the realm of bass fueled riddims is the primary mission for Hellfire Machina. With residencies at New Yorks legendary Club Love, Darkroom in Brooklyn and Psychadelic Radio in SF, it’s no wonder these guys are in high demand. Their weekly radio show on dubstepfm has gone from strength to strength and has helped push the awareness of bass music across the globe as well as providing a platform to hear the latest Hellfire creations first, often in early stages as they are delevoped in their now famously named studio Planet Twisted. Ending last year with A and R and project management credits for the Wu Tang ‘Enter The Dubstep’ album and a string of singles and remixes, they have hit the ground running in 2010. A fresh batch of releases due to hit the streets imminently, a new label project with techno legend Lenny Dee in the works as well as the next chapter in the infamous BASS FUELED MISCHIEF parties in their homebase of NYC.
RAW Q +Resident+
(Driven AM | Bingo Beats | Grid Recordings | Direct Drive | Influence | NYC)
Raw Q (aka: Dj Beau) is one of NYC's original pioneers of drum n' bass and electronic music. As a born and raised native of NYC's East Village, Beau has been dj'ing underground clubs and raves in NYC, and the USA, as well as Puerto Rico for over 13 years and counting. His resume as a dj/producer is a veritable timeline of many of the most significant parties and events of the NYC/US electronic music culture. Whether it's from his beginnings as an original Liquid Sky and Satellite Records dj (circa '95) to his current status as one of Dj Zinc's Bingo Allstars and a selected tag-team partner of DJ DB at the highly acclaimed and now defunct Secret Night of Science monthly parties at LOVE, Beau has been a truely devoted contributor to underground electronic music and rave culture since the early days.
Throughout his years as a performer and respected dj, Beau has been selected as the opener for such high profile artists as: Fabio and Grooverider, Planet of the Drums, Marcus Intalex, Calibre, Klute and has shared the bill with the likes of LTJ Bukem, Shy-Fx, Bad Company, Dj Craze and many more. He is currently a resident of Direct Drive, and performed regularly as a special guest at Secret Night of Science, Let It Roll, and Dream. He still continues to perform at NYC's longest running 21+ weekly dnb night, Camouflage.
Beau is also well known for his original music production. In 95' he teamed up with Dj Ani (NASA, Deee-Lite) and created a series of tunes which appeared on Dj Soulslinger's Jungle Sky imprint (the first US Drum n Bass Label). In 2003 Beau transformed into Raw Q. As Raw Q, his music has had a major impact in the world of electronic music with tunes such as 'Vital Soul' which appeared on Dj Zinc's reputable Bingo imprint and was ranked 11th in the BBC's Global Dance Music charts (jul.13.04), which encompasses all forms of dance music. With tunes such as Vital Soul, Caspian Moon, Summer Rain and Jagged Edge, Raw Q's music has been embraced by such legendary artists as LTJ Bukem, Fabio, Roni Size, DB, Marcus Intalex, Marky, Zinc, Bryan Gee, Bailey, Dj Flight and countless others. Beau's goal as an artist and musician is to provide inspiring, forward thinking, positive music for as many open minded people as possible. Beau is aware that music is a powerful tool for unity and positive change, and an vitally essential form of communication.

Re: 12/10/10 DIRECT DRIVE: CALCULON (NYC DEBUT), DB, SOL.ID
Due to issues way beyond Direct Drive’s control, our Friday night event has been canceled by Public Assembly, in order to give the room to a Muppet show. Our deepest apologies to Calculon & Sol.id for flying into NYC and not being able to perform for us. For those who still want some great bass music, don’t forget DARKROOM is at Cameo on Saturday in Williamsburg and is FREE! Sorry everyone!
Direct Drive is cancelled, but if you want to hear CALCULON for FREE tonight, come to Fat Buddha (212 Avenue A, between 13th & 14th street, Manhattan), late night set!
