Around 1987 the Masters At Work moniker was conceived when Louie Vega teamed with Kenny Gonzalez. If the man known as Kenny Dope was widely regarded as a living encyclopedia of beats, then it was Louie Vega’s musicality that give the partnership a soul and defined their sound; an innovative combination of hip-house-jazz styles it quickly made them originators in a sound that has been often imitated yet rarely successfully duplicated. Vega is often cited as the Miles Davis of dance music: impossible to categorize and constantly reinventing himself, and in a career now spanning three decades he shows little sign of letting up. Also around the second half of the eighties Kevin Hedge was teaming up with fellow house head Josh Milan to create the collective known as Blaze. After the cult proto-garage singles ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’, ‘If You Should Need A Friend’ and ‘Can’t Win For Loosin’’, they became the first bona fide house act to sign for the mighty Motown label, with their debut album, ‘25 Years Later’, widely been regarding as one of the genre’s most pivotal and innovative long players… ever! Fast-forward to present day and the latest chapter in both Kevin and Louie’s career is Roots, the award winning Wednesday night soiree at Cielo. A master class in the very best of quality soulful house, samba-kissed beats, and jazz-infused grooves every week the duo promises to take you on a musical journey into their world of house music.
