9/14 Natural Selection & Subverse NYC present ICICLE

Heavyweight collabo action for this one. To all the party people who were snowed in this past February for Icicle’s NYC debut, this one’s for you. The vibes will undoubtedly be thick once again and for those of you who don’t know, The Paperbox’s sound system is top notch. The bass will be booming all night long thanks to support from local’s Adred, I.N.I. and Max Mischief and vocals will be coming from Robert Manos. Get ready for return of the artist dubbed the Iceman…



Icicle
(Shogun Audio | UK)

Jeroen Snik – aka Icicle – is recognised as one of the most technically advanced and highly-respected producers in electronic music.

Mastering tech-funk better than any other, Icicle’s music is graceful yet daring and, without doubt, technically remarkable, tinged with intricate drum patterns reminiscent of Photek and entrancing, enveloping bass-lines à la Jonny L and Optical.

After commanding the attention of the masses with releases on labels such as Shogun Audio, Soul:R, Renegade Hardware and Critical, Icicle made the move from Holland to London in 2008 and exclusively signed to Shogun Audio.

‘Spartan’, Icicle’s debut on Shogun, broke a musical mould and securely positioned his elaborate engineering skills on the proverbial map.

With bookings in abundance all over the world, Mr Freeze’s sound ventures have kept the listeners anticipating eagerly his every release prompting a dangerously frosty EP on Shogun Audio in 2009 – the ‘Cold Fear’ EP – featuring an ice-cool collaboration ‘Driftwood’ with tech-pioneers, Noisia.

Impressively, Icicle’s deep, dark and futuristic dubstep has been fervently received on a global scale and caused groundbreaking responses from the dubstep world, thanks to ‘Minimal Dub’ b/w ‘Xylophobia’ released on Shogun Audio in 2010.

There really are no constraints to this producer’s aptitude – nothing short of astonishing.

After the drop of his efficacious debut album, ‘Under the Ice’, in 2011 that saw him reach dazzling new heights, Icicle’s continued need to explore other electronic genres saw him mixing a Rinse FM album installment and releasing his deeply intense ‘BNC’ dubstep EP on Shogun.

All the while the Ice man has been carefully constructing his live show that’d sure to blow audiences away throughout 2013 along with his precision DJ sets the world over.

With a reputation as one of the most flawless and exceptional electronic producers of his time, there’s nothing else quite like the Icicle experience.




Adred
(Natural Selection | NYC)

Born Adam Baker, son of a musically talented father and artist mother he was destined to be a great musician. Growing up listening to David Bowie, Eric Clapton and Thomas Dolby shaped his love for music at a young age. At the age of 16 Adam first heard Drum and Bass at a rave and wanted to replicate the energy and excitement he witnessed first hand. It wasn’t until years later when he had the opportunity to express it first by DJing. At the age of 20, he bought his first set of turntables and a mixer. Quickly learning and understanding the techniques of mixing music, a year later he was given the opportunity to play out. He knew all along that he wanted to create his own music and that being a DJ wouldn’t be enough to set himself apart from rest of the world. Little did he know, that a chance meeting in a neighborhood record store would launch his career as a producer. He didn’t stop at Drum and Bass but ventured into Hip Hop, R&B, Techno, House and everything in between. He doesn’t believe in pigeonholing himself in one genre and always produces music by feeling and bpm. Currently he is working on multiple releases with Robert Manos in many different genres. Keep an eye out for him and these songs.




I.N.I
(Subverse | NYC)

I.N.I had established himself as a driving force of innovation in the neurofunk Drum & Bass scene throughout the early 2000s, putting out legendary studio mixes. These bodies of works featured neurofunk heavyweight exclusives from artists such as Corrupt Souls (Impulse and Telemetrik), Mayhem, Noisia, Misanthrop, Kiko, and also helped to expose under exposed artists such as Desimal, Mav, and ASC.

His mixing style was unique and influential throughout the scene. He blazed his own path, combining the sounds of warm ethno dub, downtempo, cold minimalist IDM and abstract/ambient film scores into his mixes, creating captivating soundscapes.

I.N.I has played alongside many artists such as Skynet, Noisia, Black Sun Empire, Evol Intent, Corrupt Souls, UFO!, Quadrant, Pacific, Catacomb, Mystical Influence, Marcus Visionary, Prime, and more…

He also helped supply the Toronto scene with plenty of vinyl and support via Play De Record, one of Toronto’s seminal record shops for drum & bass / jungle, techno, house and hip-hop. He worked there in the early 2000′s, running their dnb/jungle department, but was knowledgeable in all.

I.N.I cut his teeth in his early years in Toronto, Canada, working as videographer/producer, designer and DJ for the world famous TORONTOJUNGLE.COM, covering and promoting many of Toronto’s MASSIVE events. Toronto had long been known as having the largest Drum and Bass scene outside of London, England.

With their amazing set of local talent, consisting of a crew of photographers, designers, DJs and writers, the Torontojungle crew eventually took the next logical step by producing and internationally distributing RINSE MAGAZINE, known by many in the breakbeat and bass culture.

I.N.I eventually branched out and founded the globally focused dnb portal DNBNATION, forming a tight international crew. DNBNATION was a website dedicated to pushing the progression of drum and bass to its fullest form of quality. Delivering informative interviews / articles, up-to-date and breaking news, cutting edge dubplate soundbytes, captivating videos, on-hand knowledgeable staff and an exclusive mix series. The DNBNATION crew were dedicated to the intricate, futuristic strain of drum & bass known as neurofunk.




Max Mischief
(Subverse | NYC)

Max Mischief is an NYC based DJ, with a focus on the deep and dark.

In December 2012 he and I.N.I founded Subverse-NYC, an events engine that produces nights dedicated to the minimal, dark, and upfront incarnations of bass music & dubstep.

Max Mischief has brought DJ sets to some of New York City’s most prominent parties such as Konkrete Jungle, Bang On! NYC, DEEPER, Dubday Mondays, Girls & Boys, and BASSment Saturdays @ Webster Hall.

He has played alongside a wide range of artists including Dubtek, Kryptic Minds, Asylum, Truth, Mesck, Demon, SGNL, Trolley Snatcha, Eprom, Clicks & Whistles, Distance, Cluekid, Knife Party, Rack-N-Ruin, Jantsen, Noah D, MartyParty, Helicopter Showdown, Mensah, Cotti, Liondub, and DJ Alex Plus.

Robert Manos

Robert Manos is a vocalist/musician who grew up in Europe, East Africa and New York. His first release of note was a collaboration with Alexi Delano on the deep house track “Round and Round” on the STATRA label remixed by Charles Webster and J.T Donaldson. On a visit to Sweden, Robert was introduced to Jesper Dahlback and Sebastian Ahrenberg ( Seba ) with whom he co-wrote “My World” for the SVEK label. From this meeting also came “16 stories” (METALHEADZ) Robert’s first drum and bass release with Seba with whom he has worked ever since. Some of these releases include “Heaven Sent”(SOUL:R) “Move On”(HOSPITAL) “Last Goodbye”(PARADOX MUSIC) “Wild One”(METALHEADZ) “Make Peace”(SUBJECT 13). Also in collaboration with Jesper Dahlback and John Dahlback under the name Hugg n Pepp came Mazarin, Robban and more recently “Sweet Rosie”. Also on Adam Beyer’s TRUE SOUL label came “Before its all gone” . Robert’s first Album entitled “Angel Road” was released in 2009 on MOLE RECORDINGS. Robert recently returned to the States from performances in Europe with Seba and Paradox.
