In over a decade in the dance music industry, Shaheer Williams can proudly attest to being a "jack of all trades" and master of most of them. From DJing to remixing, from producing music, to running a record label, Williams has been a pivotal force in the intense whirlpool of talent in New Jersey's musical fraternity.

Born in Orange, New Jersey, Shaheer began his DJ career in earnest, taking to the turntables at age seven. By the age of nine, he had already DJ'd his first major gig at East Orange's Club 88. While in high school and listening to ground breaking DJ's like Tony Humphries and Timmy Regisford, Williams began working at the influential music store, Movin' Records. This employment not only gave him a grass roots education in the dance music genre, but also afforded him numerous music contacts. Encouraged by family members who were successful producers within the dance music community themselves, Williams secured his first DJ residency at the legendary Club Zanzibar on college night in the early '90's. Simultaneously he was honing his skills as a remixer and producer.

Williams then moved on to start his own record label, Soul Groove Records, which caused an international stir with the release of "Spread Love" featuring world-renowned artists, Kenny Bobien, Ann Nesby and Louie Vega. Released shortly thereafter was the Ruffneck project, "Get It Right" Featuring*Yavahn, amongst a string of other well-received releases.
With his name buzzing in international dance music circles, Williams next decided to cement his reputation by touring non-stop as a DJ, playing in Europe, Brazil, Japan and the Middle East over an exhausting three year period.

*Taking a break from the road, Shaheer has been back in the studio recently, putting the finishing touches on an array of upcoming Soul Groove releases, including a new Ruffneck album which features a number of guest vocalists and musicians. He has also launched the international internet radio show “Soul Groove Jam Sessions,” powered by the popular DJ hub CyberJamz.
