Dimitri From Paris’ latest BBE compilation, ‘Get Down With The Philly Sound’ features five respectful retouches from the late Teddy Pendergrass’ wonderfully gifted songbook. A fitting tribute to a true soul colossus, these exclusive reworkings from the French funkster showing today’s bedroom mixers and wannabe DJs exactly how it should be done. Working from original master tapes Dimitri respectfully remixes (in the old fashion sense of the word) without the need for adding syncopated drumbeats and modern day computer wizardry. Arrangements are changed, vocals are introduced in acappella, strings, brass and percussion are soloed, emphasized and re-EQ’d, and the net result is rediscovering long lost favorites as new. Francois K also contributes updated versions to the vinyl version of the project, and the two go head-to-head at Deep Space on Monday 6th on a night that promises to bring together the very best of yesteryear with the best in the here-and-now.
