Wed, Nov 10 | ROOTS Afterwork tribute to Hector Lavoe @ Cielo

On a Wednesday night in Manhattan all roads lead to Roots– Louie Vega & Kevin Hedge’s award winning homage to the very best in Latin, salsa-infused grooves and seductive soulful house music. On Wednesday 10th they pay tribute to the roots of salsa with a night dedicated to the memory of Puerto Rico singer Héctor Lavoe. Born in 1946, “El Cantante De Los Cantantes” as he was known, moved to New York as a 17-year old and collaborated with Willie Colón at the legendary Fania label. He featured on almost a dozen albums over an eight-year period, including ‘Asalto Navideño’ in 1971, considered by many as a classic of the genre. Lavoe would later tour and record with the Fania All-Stars and enjoy a successful solo career that included songs like ‘El Periódico de Ayer’ and ‘El Cantante’ – both huge hits in Latin markets. Héctor Lavoe died from complications from AIDS in 1993, he was just 46. Roots pay their respects on a tribute night to a true musical great.
