Did you know.

- Complex carbohydrates-which have more vitamins and
minerals than simple sugars-are not listed on most food labels. However, they're
easy to calculate. Start with the "Total Carbohydrates" and subtract the
"Dietary Fiber" and "Sugars"; the answer is the number of complex
carbs.

- Ingredients are listed in order of largest to smallest. So if
oils and sugars are at the top of the list, the food probably isn't the
healthiest choice you could make.

- When a product is labeled as being
"94 percent Fat-Free" (or some other percentage), the number represents the
product's fat-free content by WEIGHT. If you're counting calories or fat grams,
check the nutrition label for those specifics.
