Terry "Tee" Alford, event planner, producer & music mixer has been building an entertainment following since arriving in Philadelphia as a Temple University freshman in 1984. Quickly seeing the need to diversify and expand the soul music dance community in Philly, he injected his unique view of music into the local college social scene. Although this sound was not well received at first, the region would soon take notice of the enthusiasm at his well attended dance concerts both on and off campus. Major productions during the city's annual public events, like the Pan-Hellenic Greek Picnic in Fairmount Park and Penn Relays (1986-1992), provided a larger platform to showcase his event planning & DJ talents.
In 1988, Tee auditioned for Eric Coston to join the lineup on Philly's first "House music" urban radio mix show on WDAS-FM. That very same year, he began his first solo club residency on Sunday nights at Club Impulse with station mate, Kenny Ebo & friends. The rest is history. Those early successes would pave the way for many of Philadelphia's revered house music deejays & entertainers. Tee has built his own name since the late 80s with DJ appearances at Philly's top venues, NYC's Club Shelter, Cielo, and on tour dates throughout Europe & Canada. Some of his noteworthy music/remix productions & distributed releases under the Funky People Records®, Joint Ventures Group labels & the legendary group Blaze can still be heard in club/radio sets to this day.
The challenges of multiple business endeavors, a technical career and untimely family tragedies have taken Tee away from his entertainment ambitions on several occasions. Recently, things have come full circle for his brand and reputation, however. In January 2013, nearly 25 years after his first radio appearance, Tee launched a new weekly mix show, Funky People® RADIO LIVE on WURD-AM 900 radio in Philadelphia. Now in 2014, the future looks to be even more exciting as Tee plans to expand his popular lifestyle, networking and entertainment travel group. Look for the next creative chapters of the Funky People® nation to be written at forthcoming events in Philadelphia, Washington, DC and on upcoming studio projects.
